Gromov is awarded the Abel Prize for 2009 News

Mikhail Leonidovich Gromov of the IHES and New York University has been awarded the 2009 Abel Prize by the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, which cited his "revolutionary contributions to geometry" in the award notice.

The Niels Henrik Abel Memorial Fund was established on 1 January 2002, to award the Abel Prize for outstanding scientific work in the field of mathematics; it is open to all areas of mathematics. Previous laureates include Serre, Atiyah, Thompson and Tits.
