So we hear sometimes about the nature of age and math...

Such as conceptual and experimental thinking and how it relates to age. I've read enough math biographies to know that there have been plenty of mathematicians who've been super productive until they fell over (Euler e.g., Poincare conjecturing at 50, etc.). Well, here's an interesting fellow: http://research.microsoft.com/theory/freedman/ He's accomplished in topology and it looks like has recently branched out to the P vs. NP problem, which is a Millenium problem. Microsoft hired him on, which is pretty neat I think. Anyway, I think attitude is so important in any endeavor, and I know I sometimes fall victim to having a ba-humbug one sometimes regarding the whole enterprise. Anyway, if anyone else wants to share interesting people who keep on a-tickin' let us know. The Millenium problems are of course outstanding problems and it's cool to see *anyone* working on them!

There have been plenty, yes. But there are also quite a number who keeled over way before their prime. And an impressive number too have been successful. Though the more famous ones involve musicians, are there any famous mathematicians with stories like these? Taking cue from vizioneer, anyone who knows stories of men like these, please let us know too.
