School is coming! Grad Life

The school year is almost upon us, it seems like almost yesterday that Spring semester was over.

For those preparing for graduate school, those already admitted, or those already attending - what courses are you taking this fall?

Post a Comment

Many students wonder, am I up to par with what other students at other universities are taking?

I have thought about this question a lot. I thought I could reach a larger audience with this question if I posted up a story asking the proverbial question - what are you taking this fall?

Please tell us (myself and other YMN readers) where you are on your grad school journey, what year you are in what kind of program, and what courses you are taking. This also applies to those who are applying, so other applicants can know what your course load is like (please do not include courses like "History: Since 1865" in your list.)

If you know your textbooks, you could post those too, that would give other students an idea of what textbooks are standard for which courses.

Thank you in advanced for all those who already posted. I do not know how far this will go, who will answer or what not. But I thought it would be fun to try.

[new] First Semester Masters Student (none / 0) (#1)
by solarmist on Mon Jul 31, 2006 at 10:43:43 PM PDT

I was just admitted to the masters program at CSU on Friday for this fall and right now I'm planning on taking

(500+ is grad level at CSU)
M501 Combinitorics (Combinatorics: Topics, Techniques, Algorithms by Cameron)
M517 Intro to Real Analysis (Principles of Mathematical Analysis by Rudin)
M566 Abstract Algebra (Abstract Algebra by Dummit and Foote)
M598 Algebra Seminar (Weekly talks)
M495 GRE Math Subject test prep course (Cracking the GRE Math Test, by The Princeton Review)

The more I learn the more I realize how little I truly know.

Poll
Are you curious to know what other students are taking?
Yes, very curious. Am I up to speed?
Yes, but only some what curious and only while my computer is doing computations.
Yes, it would help me out a lot.
No, not curious at all. I could care less.
No, only because I am almost finished.
No, what is done is done, I cannot go back on my decisions now.
Maybe. I am curious if you are curious - are you curious?
