The 2006 Nobel Prize for Economics has been awarded to Edmund Phelps of Columbia, "for his analysis of intertemporal tradeoffs in macroeconomic policy".

The Nobel Prize in Economics (more formally, "The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel") is often awarded to people working in mathematical fields; John Nash and Kenneth Arrow are famous examples.
