After months of unsuccessful negotiations with publisher Elsevier about the price policy of library subscriptions, the entire editorial board of the journal Topology handed in their resignation, with effect from 31 December, 2006. See their resignation letter and an article in the New York Sun.

This follows a trend of growing discontent among the mathematical (or even scientific) community with the prices charged for journals. Many feel that Elsevier (and to a lesser extent, other publishers) abuses its position to charge prices that do not accurately reflect production costs.
