Proper titles? Career

Recently I was looking at getting a business card made and I came across the title field and thought to myself, what SHOULD I call myself? I'm not don't have a Ph.D. yet, so I don't think that just Mathematician is appropriate and anything with student in it just makes it seem like you aren't someone to be taken seriously.

My question is what do you think would be appropriate or what did you call yourself when you were still a student?

[new] Main purpose of the cards? (none / 0) (#1)

What would be the ultimate purpose of the business cards? Is it for summer work, or a job in a specific area, or... [I don't have any good ideas of titles, but wonder if knowing more about the purpose would help.]

I think the previous comment is right on the money. What is the point of these cards? If you're just handing them out to friends or people that you meet at conferences, simply listing your department and university affiliation should be enough. If you feel like appending a different terminal degree to your name, that might also be appropriate. "John Jay, MBA" or "George Washington, M.Phil." may be appropriate. If you currently teach at a university as part of your graduate studies, perhaps you can list yourself as an "instructor". If it's for a nonacademic job, you can always try "mathematical consultant".

Dov :-)
