Math Scholarships?

I bet we've all heard there is a lot of money for those going into mathematics...

At my school there is a scholarship fund for advanced math majors, but not too advanced (you have to have more than 2 semesters remaining before graduation), but this was only created in memory of one of the past department heads who recently passed away.

I was wondering if any other departments (undergrad) had scholarships for math majors, either ones to draw students in or ones for students already there.

Does anyone have any good ideas about how to start a scholarship fund for math majors at your institution?

Any advice/suggestions - greatly appreciated.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. If you go to graduate school in mathematics you should not have to pay for tuition. period. If you are being asked to pay then start looking for a different school. The US government wants to encourage more citizens to go into math so they pump money into the system to pay for tuition. Of course, I said citizens, so if you are a foreign national you can expect to work as a TA continuously through gradschool to help pay your way. Also, I said graduate school. Is there money for undergrads? Tes, but not as much. At my school (Wartburg College) there are a few endowed scholarships for math majors. They were created by some alum with lots of money who donated to the school. Talk to your development department about starting said scholarship. But starting a scholarship requires donating a boatload of money, so that the interest alone is enough to pay for the scholarship money. I should mention that the math scholarships at our school make little more than a dent in the tuition bill and is often accompanied by a corresponding reduction in other types of financial aid. At my university we have math departmental scholarships, they are several different people that donate into this fund on top of what the university allocates to the department to give out. I have gotten a $250 scholarship for one semester from them, but the usual scholarship amount is $50 - $100. Not much at all, but in my experiences every little bit helps. We also have a NASA Grant Program at my school, which is for mainly math and sciences majors (but open to everyone), and I usually get a few hundred a semester from that. Although, in order to get one of the NASA scholarships you have to either do some sort of research in your field, or a project promoting the math and science field. I don't think that is asking to much. If you don't have a NASA Grant Program, it might be something worth getting some of your professors to look into.
