What's the Inside Scoop? Career

Recently The Chronicle of Higher Education had an interesting article talking about what to do when someone you know contacts you asking for "inside" information about a search in your school/department. What should or shouldn't you tell them? Is it ethical to "dig around" for them? The author also gives several interesting anecdotes about his experiences.

In addition to this article, I'm also very interested to hear the thoughts and comments of our readers as well as any anecdote from those of you "on the inside" (in tenure track or tenured positions).
