Plans for the Joint Meetings in 2001 (and beyond)
Dov will coordinate Town Meeting and do flyer.
We decide on a panel on keeping research alive.
Sharon and Lyn will organize the research panel.
Try asking Frank Sottile, Curt Bennett to be panelists.
Kevin C. suggests a YMN special session for papers. Maybe 2001.
Karrolyne suggests a talk for undergrads.
John K. suggests have speakers to talk about their contribution to Curt's CoProf book, Starting Our Careers.
Emil suggests a session with talks by YMN founders.
The YMN tenth anniversary is in 2003. For 2003 ask current AMS president or CoProf chair to speak about state of profession for young
junior mathematicians.
New ideas for Concerns articles
Birk: internships for undergrads and more articles on industry jobs.
Dov asks about Farrugia article on surveys.
Emil and Phil will talk to the Banc One speaker.
How to use career profiles from MAA/SIAM.
(In response to the questions by undergraduates at the town meeting:)
Don't spread ourselves too thin by trying to cover undergrads. Address this issue by giving advice to faculty for how to help undergrads. Dov
will ask Francis Su about collaborating with undergraduates.
Kevin C will write on transition from TA to new faculty.
Inappropriate questions during interviews: what can a private institution ask that a public university cannot?
