Since I'm in my third year of my three year postdoc I am in the process of conducting yet another job search (YAJS). But this time I have the benifit of having gone through this same process three years ago (and I also don't have to worry about finishing my PhD at the same time as doing the search ;).
As things progress, I am going to attempt to post regular "updates" to my personal diary page here at YMN. Disclaimer: the views and opinions expressed here (in my personal diary pages) do not necessarly represent the views of the YMN.

| Well, I said "the saga begins". What that literaly means is that I'm still working on putting together my CV, teaching statement, etc. And while I do still have all this material from when I did my search back in 2002, I am heavly reworking a fair bit of it.
What else to relate? Well, I have also been checking out some of the postings on the EIMS and such and I definatly have found various schools that I am interested in... so I really need to get my but in gear and get my materials ready to submit!
One other thing I guess I could add (maybe I'll talk more about this in another diary post): the types of schools and regions of the country that I'm looking at. Presently, I'm focusing my search mostly on schools in the midwest (my family is in this area) and the northwest (my wife's family is in that area). As far as schools, I'm definatly feeling the longing to return to my small liberal arts school roots. However, I'm also very interested (and very much enjoy) working with undergraduates on interdiciplinary reserach projects. During my graduate and postdoc years at large research universities I have enjoyed having a sufficent number of students (as well as faculty from other departments) who share this interest and have embarked on several collaborative projects of this nature. So I'm also looking favorably as some of the (somewhat smaller) comprehensive universities (sepecially ones that have strong science/engineering programs)...
Okay, I think that's enough for now. I'm curious if I'll end up having any "readers" of these Job Search diary entries..... So if you are reading this now, please post a short comment. Thanks! |
