Are textbook prices too high? Undergrad Life

There is an interesting story on Slashdot entitled Ripoff 101: Gouging Students for Textbooks.

For mathematics, it does seems especially true that textbooks are outrageously priced. Couple this with the fact that they seem to come out with a new edition about every other year and it really does seem like publishers are out to squeeze every dime out of the student masses! What do other readers think?

I recently got email that at a recent faculty senate meeting our chancellor commented on the high cost of textbooks and asked that departments start discussions about ways to help control these costs.

As a follow up to this he cited this study of textbook costs (which is pretty much identical to the URL that appeared in the Slashdot story).

Do readers know of other studies?
