Remember to Vote in the AMS Elections
A portion of what follows has been excerpted from an e-mail to current
AMS members from John Ewing, Executive Director of the AMS, regarding the
election of officers for 2004:
The AMS election is currently underway. You may have received (or
will soon receive) either a paper ballot or an e-mail inviting
you to vote online.
PLEASE NOTE: The nominations for President Elect that appeared in
the September 2003 NOTICES were truncated.
The full versions can be found on the AMS website at
http://www.ams.org/secretary/noms-pres.pdf ,
which can be accessed from the Governance page.
For further information about the election, please see
http://www.ams.org/secretary/elec-info.html
or send e-mail to
election@ams.org. (END OF EXCERPT)
Perhaps of special interest to junior mathematicians are the
candidacies of Kevin Knudson (a former YMN Board member) for a position as
Member at Large of the AMS Council, and Annalisa Crannell (co-editor of
the "Starting Our Careers" AMS publication containing many prior articles
from the YMN archives) for a member on the AMS Nominating Committee.
On behalf of the YMN Board of editors, I strongly urge you to read the
biographies and statements of purpose for each of the candidates, and to
cast your ballot by November 7 by mail or via the web. In past years,
only about 12% of the eligible voting membership casts ballots in the
elections, so make your vote count!
