Financial troubles at schools seem to be a common theme at the
moment.  Public schools are having cutbacks, hiring freezes, and less
numbers of TAs than in the past due to states cutting back on their
funding.  Some private schools are having similar situations but more
often due to plummeting returns from the endowment.  My own school is
cutting 29 staff due to a budget crunch, along with cuts to our
benefits package.

What are your experiences in this area?  Is your school making cuts?
If so are they to department budgets, university-wide budgets,
specific programs, or position cuts?

I would also be curious what people's opinions are with respect to
whether one should start looking for other jobs when the institution
has financial trouble.  I have no desire to leave my current job, but
many people have suggested to me that I should be looking for a new
job, so I'm interested in seeing opinions.
