The Association for Women in Mathematics is investigating the feasibility of on site child care at the Joint Mathematics Meetings. It is essential for us first to obtain a better idea of the demand for such services. If you are interested in on site childcare, please click on the "Full Story" link below for instructions on how to submit the survey as well as the actual survey questions.

Sincerely,
Carolyn Gordon
President, AWM

[new] This is awesome! (none / 0) (#1)
by scoop on Wed Oct 08, 2003 at 09:47:23 PM PDT

I don't have kids (at this point) but I just get this picture of a daycare filled with kids using blocks to prove mathematical theorems and the like! (I think particular image in my mind might be from some Star Treck episode or something... ;)

Honestly though, I think it's really an awesome sign that this is something that is under consideration for the joint meetings. So I encourace everyone who does have kids to help out the AWM and take a few minutes to fill out the survey!

[new] Atlanta Meeting Childcare (none / 0) (#2)
by Anonymous Hero on Wed May 26, 2004 at 07:18:45 PM PDT

The AMS-MAA are moving forward to provide childcare at the Atlanta meeting, adding material into the program notices and encouraging people to sign up early. The details are still being worked out, but roughly the arrangements will be for children of a few months to 12 years, and the charges will include a $25 registration fee and modest hourly rates (lower for graduate students). People will have to sign up in advance to be assured space (since we have to plan for the number of rooms and staff). The commitment is for the Atlanta meeting only at this point, so spread the word and use the services!
