In this week's Chronicle of Higher Education,
an article by Michele
Singer describes "the Weasel clause" as
the often hidden clause in the university handbook that specifies
that tenure and other appointment decisions need not be based on
articulated criteria that can be objectively measured...
Faculty whose tenure is denied by means of such a provision, despite
good research, teaching, and service, can't be distinguished from
faculty denied tenure for poor job performance.
