Q: How do I post an article?

A: Because of spam articles, we have had to restrict article posting to registered users. See below for how to register. Once you are registered ...

Click on the Submit a Story link that appears in the Menu box on the right of the page. This will take you to the Submit New Story page where you can enter the title and text of your story. Once you have done this press the preview button to make sure everything is in order and, once you are satisfied with how the preview appears, finaly press the submit button. Your story will be added to the Moderate Submissions queue where other readers/editors will vote for your story to be posted.

    A few useful notes.

    • If your story is long, put the opening paragraph (the teaser) in the Intro Copy box and the rest in the Extended Copy box.
    • Just to the right of the Preview button you will find a drop down menu that will alow you to choose a section. Make sure you select something here. If you'd like to see a section added to the site, contact the moderator at moderator@youngmath.net
    • To the right of the section drop down menu is another drop down menu that lets you choose how the text you enter will be formated (i.e. HTML or plain text). The default formating is HTML which will alow you to use a handful of html tags to format your text in both the Intro Copy and Extended Copy fields (so that, for instance, you can put in a link to another web page). If you don't know html but would like to include a link, just type the URL and one of the editors will fix it.
    • If you submit a story without loging into your account (see below for how to create an account) your story will appear anonymously (i.e. from Anonymous Hero).

If you need help submiting your story contact the moderator at moderator@youngmath.net for assistance.

    Q: How do I post a comment?

A: Because of problems with spam comments, we have regrettably had to restrict comments to registered users. (See below for instructions on registering.)
Below every article is a Post A Comment link. Simply click on that link and type away. As with articles, html is allowed.

    Q: How can I register?

A: There are two ways you can register with YMN.

    • You can create your own login/account on our online interactive newsletter (aka the scoop site). With this account you can
      • post articles or comments
      • have digest of posted articles mailed to you daily, weekly or monthly.
    • And/or you can add your email address to our mailing list to receive monthly digests of the articles that are posted to our online interactive newsletter.

Q: How do I get email forwarding?

A: First you need to create an login/account on our online interactive newsletter. Then send a request to moderator@youngmath.net. See here for details.

Q: What does the "+hotlist" mean at the top of every article?

A: The hotlist links only appear once you have logged in to your online account. These links allow you to "bookmark" stories that are of interest to you so that you can easily return to them later. Once you click on "+hotlist" the story is added to your hotlist box and a link to this story will appear on the right of the page in the "hotlist" box. Also, the "+hotlist" link will change to a "-hotlist" link that you can click to remove this story from your hotlist if you so desire.

Do you have any stories on... ?

    A: Maybe ;)

First, try a keyword search to see if you can find any stories on the topic you are interested in. To search, click on the Search links that appear in t he small box on the left (or you can use the search link that appears in the menu box on the right or, if you really want the search link that appears at the very bottom of the page).

If you don't find a story on the topic you are interested in, you might consider posting your own story asking the community at large to give their thoughts, references, etc.

Finally, here is a rough listing (by topic) of some stories that you might find interesting/ useful/etc...
