Posted Fri Apr 16, 2010 at 03:24:34 PM PDT
The 4th annual Career Mentoring Worskhop (CaMeW) for Women in the mathematical sciences will be held July 18-20, 2010 at The United States Military Academy (West Point, NY). The goals of the workshop are to help inform women finishing their PhDs about different aspects of the job search and different career paths and to introduce them to peers and mentors on whom they can call over the next year (and beyond). Women who are intending to finish their PhDs next year are encouraged to apply. Funding from the Center for Diversity in West Point's Math Department will provide at least partial funding for all participants. More information and the application can be found at the website: www.wheatoncollege.edu/camew. The application deadline is May 15th.

Now that the Joint Meetings are over, the next step in your job search is probably a campus interview. We've run lots of stories in the past with advice for going on these always stressful and sometimes fun-filled adventures. Last year we had a couple of people blog about their searches (one from each side of the table.) Some folks at UC-Davis have set up a site where job candidates can find out (and post) the status of a bunch of institutions' searches.

There are two parts, the teaching list and the research list. (We're not sure how they draw the distinction...)

How were the Joint Meetings?
Fantastic! We shouldn't wait another 15 years to go back!
Nice, except for that crazy violin talk.
Don't know - I only saw the inside of the Employment Center
If we had any travel money, I'm sure I would have enjoyed it
