[new] Thank you (none / 0) (#4)
by solarmist on Thu Jun 08, 2006 at 08:55:26 PM PDT

This is the exactly the advise that I've been looking for, but no one seems to want to give.

Being at a moderate level is fine with me.  Right now I'm racing so hard to catch up, being middle of the pack is enough for me.  I think I will more than make up for appearing moderate in my grades and courses with other aspects of my application.

I know that the rankings are very subjective, but it seems to me unless you're already an expert in the field it's impossible to figure out which schools are better than others.  I know asking professors is the best way, but I have had VERY limited contact with any professors for the last 5 years, let alone mathematicians, so I'm just trying to figure out where I fit and where my interests would match.

The more I learn the more I realize how little I truly know.
