[new] Money Money Money (none / 0) (#1)

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. If you go to graduate school in mathematics you should not have to pay for tuition. period. If you are being asked to pay then start looking for a different school. The US government wants to encourage more citizens to go into math so they pump money into the system to pay for tuition. Of course, I said citizens, so if you are a foreign national you can expect to work as a TA continuously through gradschool to help pay your way. Also, I said graduate school. Is there money for undergrads? Tes, but not as much. At my school (Wartburg College) there are a few endowed scholarships for math majors. They were created by some alum with lots of money who donated to the school. Talk to your development department about starting said scholarship. But starting a scholarship requires donating a boatload of money, so that the interest alone is enough to pay for the scholarship money. I should mention that the math scholarships at our school make little more than a dent in the tuition bill and is often accompanied by a corresponding reduction in other types of financial aid. I hope this helps. BB
