I highly recommend the Reconnect conference. I went to one on Elections and Voting Theory this past summer, and it was a very good experience. You get to meet a lot of people from very different kinds of schools, and you get some great ideas for things you can do in your classroom as well as personal projects. If you're like me and have trouble getting started on new research projects, this is a great way to get back in the saddle.
