[new] Placement issues in math (none / 0) (#1)
by kevin charlwood on Fri Sep 24, 2004 at 07:18:15 AM PDT

At Washburn University in Topeka, KS, we too, have many of the same issues as at Wheeling Jesuit. We no longer give a placement test during registration/orientation at the start of a new school year, but rather use ACT score in math together with the number of years of math the student has taken and some advising to decide proper placement. The results over the past three years have not been good - our failing rates in college algebra and calculus are quite high. It would be nice to find an effective solution to this problem!
