[new] Financial woes at a small college. (none / 0) (#1)
by Anonymous Hero on Sat May 08, 2004 at 04:47:56 AM PDT

I was in a similar type of institution with financial problems. Sorry to be pessimistic, but in my opinion, it's difficult (but not impossible) to turn around a downslide like that in an institution. I did change jobs to a place that was financially stable and have since learned that my former place of work is still in pretty much the same state, even after many years. There was another college in the area that actually closed down a few years ago because they were not solvent.

[new] Treating faculty as people not serfs (none / 0) (#2)

Hello, Glad you are not entirely unhappy there...but in addition to the comments someone made about finances in the first reply, I'm also not optimistic about the climate at your institution. Comments such as, "The cuts were done after the students left for the summer and we found out most the details about how many cuts had been made from the local paper rather than from the administration" do not suggest that it's the best place to stay for the rest of one's career (hmm, not a certain small college in central VA perhaps?) Just some thoughts..
