[new] a friendly amendment on a tip (none / 0) (#3)

Two words: Caller ID!!!

We invested in it right as I started my job search, and it definitely was worth it. (That was before it was more of a "standard" feature.) Knowing that you're just about to have some form of contact with a potential employer definitely helps you get in the right mindset.

The only drawback is that some institutions have phone systems that register as "unavailable" or otherwisely unrecognizable. Do not get anonymous call rejection or other services that block such calls! Here in Northern Virginia, we have a service that takes such calls through an automated service, records the name and business of the caller, then rings us and gives us that information, allowing us to accept the call or deny it. I'm not sure how an employer would react to such a service, especially if they hadn't experienced it before.
