[new] Patent Law (5.00 / 1) (#11)
by chawne on Thu Jan 29, 2004 at 07:47:38 AM PDT

My officemate in grad school finished his PhD in math (logic and set theory) and went to work for the Patent Office in DC. Mainly, he worked on software/cryptosystem patent applications--the most natural fit for mathematicians. His interest in the law grew and so he went to law school at Georgetown part-time and just graduated in December with his JD. He's now taking the Bar Exam (which, by the way, he says is just about as difficult as our math qualifying exams) and is looking forward to a career in the law.

In the Chronicle: Should I go to Law School? is a story about a couple of humanities/social science academics who shifted to law. It's got some good advice...
