[new] Nope, not (none / 0) (#13)
by SeminoleNo1 on Thu Jan 23, 2003 at 08:22:42 AM PDT

Had the face to face on the 15th. Nice trip, but the bottom line was "we are continuing to look at other candidates, we will be in touch as soon as we can".

I've been on both sides of the coin in interviewing. Really when you are looking at someone, you are looking at four things: the 3 C's and the ability to learn. The three C's are chemistry (how well could the applicant fit on the team), character, and competence. The fourth element, the ability to learn, is a recognition that any technical job now changes in six to 12 months. Can a person learn and adapt with the job.

I believe I scored high in 3 of the 4. In fact, the company (10K+ employees) passes notes on applicants that they don't make an immediate offer on and I got a recommendation as a strong material. Where I lacked is competence -- that is, being the "ideal fit" technically. They were looking for certain experience so I could hit the ground running a little faster with them.

I might still get the job -- they might not find a better fit. But they've decided to continue to look. Maybe another part of the company will have a need I fit.

Yet, the search continues.
